Asked for copy of my passport when i booked a trip?

Has anyone ever been asked for a copy of passport? I booked a trip using paypal in phuket and the company asked for a copy of my passport for security

Can you please clarify if you see the request to provide your passport on your PayPal account or if the request was made by the merchant directly? If we asked you to provide a photo ID, it may be due to security reasons and you should be able to provide it in your Resolution Centre. Otherwise, if it was the merchant who asked you to provide that information, please reach out to the merchant directly.
