Incorrect PayPal balance after multiple payments

I've recently made two separate payments to PayPal credit. The first a normal monthly direct debit and a second as a top up to cover a purchase I was planning on making. My overall PayPal credit balance has now reduced by £40 despite no purchases being made and over £100 being added to my PayPal credit balance. Any reason why that could be?
