Can I deposit a check signed over to me?

My S/O can't find his correct ID card so the bank and moneycenters won't let him cash it. It comes back as some sort of error. If he signs it over to me can I deposit that?

Whatever you do, do not write "void" on the check until PayPal says that you should, so in case the check is not approved, you can still cash it at a bank or currency exchange/check cashing place.
