Why is my American Express unavailable for payment

Why can't I use my American Express card as my form of payment when sending money to someone in another country? When I go to select my payment method, my American Express is greyed out and the following notice is on the top of the screen "Sorry, your preferred funding method isn’t available. Please choose different one."

 

I have tried sending to a friend and paying for a service. I can make the payment if I choose my bank account. I have contacted American Express and they have no holds on my account. I am getting the run around from PayPal support.

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Community Forum! 

 

In general, our system reviews every payment before it's completed and sometimes, for security reasons, a payment method may be made unavailable. Unfortunately, we would not be able to manually change the security settings. However, you can try clearing your cache and cookies, deleting your browser history and waiting for 48 hours without accessing your account to let the system reset. This may help you solve the issue!
