USD converted to EUR without my permission

I received  a payment in USD and PayPal immediately changed itinto EUR without my asking. My client says they paid in USD, which I believe is true.

I have contacted PayPal, but got no reply. I want this payment to remain in USD.

Any ideas?

It's good that you reached out to us regarding this matter. If you are located in another country other than US it will be automatically converted. And your PayPal account is not a US PayPal account. It will be a Standard and in General. No option to retain it. If you have a USD account with your local bank, once funds is already transferred, you can check if they can convert it to USD for you. You also can request US senders to directly send it to your USD account but it will already be outside PayPal to avoid conversion fees.
