I understand your concern about the authentication process to access your PayPal account. To deliver a secure service, PayPal may ask to confirm the identity by sending a code to make sure the account holder is accessing the account if the system notices any new or unusual activity, like a log in from a new device or different location. Try to avoid accessing your account using unrecognized or restricted networks like VPN, public networks for the secure login.

That is exactly what is happening to me. I use a window PC & Chrome browser I've logged in to paypal quite a few times today & it is always needs the SMS code. I haven't even come out of the browser although it might be another tab. The only thing I can think of is cookie settings as I tend to reject all but necessary cookies
