Paypal Plug-in Secure Card Generator Discontinued?!

This STINKS! It looks like the Paypal Plug-in has been abandoned entirely (I’m in the US)…

I created a new account less than a month ago, downloaded the Paypal Plugin Secured Cards app and was notified that I’d have to wait 30 days for it to be active “for security purposes” [I'm sure]… I have about 12 more days until I was SUPPOSED to be able to use it…

As I was VERY thrilled about the aspect of using the Paypal Plugin, I was trying to show my friend the app today and WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!?! The application loads and brings me to the paypal site and instead of it displaying all of the info about the Paypal Plugin it says PAYPAL PLUG-IN, NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!!

Wow Paypal, not announced as a discontinued product ANYWHERE on your site (that I could find), just literally dissapeared as if it never existed, half your account reps dont even know it after I made several calls in and they asked other reps among them…

I’m extremely dissapointed as I was looking forward to using iPaypal Plug-in and especially since I have to wait about 40 days to get the regular Paypal card now…it would have been GREAT to use the Paypal Plug-in sooner. Maybe since the plugin is "no longer available" the Paypal Debit Card should be offered sooner so my business doesn't have to suffer while I wait to deposit funds into my bank account so I can turn around and buy products that my customers ordered from me.

Please note:: I'm NOT trying to bash Paypal as it's been GREAT in terms of integration into our shopping cart software and easy to use, safe, secure, etc...but from my point of view, where I need the Paypal Debit Card sooner than later and I was EXPECTING to be able to use the Paypal Plug-in as a "work-around" THIRTY DAYS before I could have used the Paypal Plug-in, this is a severe dissapointment to me and my business partners.

PLEASE BRING THE PAYPAL PLUG-IN BACK!!! =’(

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?! Does anyone from Paypal have a reason/excuse as to why this seemingly cool & useful product would dissapear with absolutely no formal reason/acknowledgement from the company that developed it? (again I may be wrong, but I could not find any info about the app being discontinued, nor have any of the support articles for the program been updated to say that Virtual Cards are gone, and so is the Paypal Plug-in)

This makes me lose faith in RELYING on a system that in the future like this, because how am I supposed to be able to develop a "standard operating platform/procedure" all the while knowing that the product might randomly go away? Obviously I'll have to rely on the Paypal Debit Card and my other back-up funding accounts, but this whole thing just hurts =( haha.

Any comments or reasonings here would be appreciated. Thanks 😃

I've had my account for over a year, but it still keeps telling me its "discontinued". I even have the toolbar plugin installed! This is just plain frustratuing - I found out about the plug-in about a month ago, but now it won't let me get it, eventhough my account has been around for quite a while.

I'm definitely not a new user, so that stuff about only new users not being able to get it is bogus. Does anyone know of a way I can get it for my account? I read through this whole thread, downloaded the plugin from the link on the 2nd page that some kind soul posted (thank you!), thinking I was in the green, but now after installing it successfully, all I have is a plugin on my toolbar that wont let me use my account with it. 😞

Does anyone know how to get it for your account once you have the toolbar plugin installed?

Help! 😞

I used my single use option on 1/3/2010 and 4 times in December, I guess if you have it installed and have an active account there is no problem.

I paid for something with a single-use secure card about a week ago.  I don't have the plug-in because it was unavailable for the Mac, so I just go into the secure card section on my PayPal acct and request the card.  Who knows, I may be unpleasantly surprised soon too.

For those of you who can't activate these cards, maybe it has something to do with the plug-in?  And if your secure cards are kicking back, maybe your bank isn't accepting the authorization that is sent out to verify your account.  Also, some merchants won't take a prepaid card, which is what the secure card is.  So, perhaps the merchant kicked it back.

I was able to use it a few days ago, but I am trying to pay a bill now and it keeps telling me my transaction is declined! Its really starting to **bleep** me off. I have had PayPal for years and have never had any issues. PayPal plug in is the main way I pay my bills. I hope they figure their stuff out and soon, before I just start sending money orders again.

I just used it on 2/16 and all was well but today 2/18 it would not work at all.  I called cust svc and told them I could nto get to the secure card function and  they told me to reinstall it. When I tried I got this page...https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/general/NewPayPalPlugin-outside  AND it said it was discontinued. I found a link to download it and it installed  and I got the sign in for the secure card but of course I did not want to use it in case it failed after I placed an order. I called Cust Svc again and asked point blank if they had discontinued it and he said no.  I told that there was a Paypal website that said it was discontinued. He went to check and came back and yes in fact it had been discontinued.

I saw posts on here that way back in 11/09 users were denied access and told it had been discontinued so how did some of us manage to use it recently with no problem. I used it on Amazon and they accepted it as my order is on its way.

I am sooooooooo confused at  this point

I have Firefox 3.6 and the toolbar plugin does not work.  I was able to go to the PayPal website and generate a secure card number.  I have to enter the card number manually but it stills works for me.  It looks like the plugin needs updated for 3.6.  Of course, if they have really discontinued the plugin I would guess no update will becoming.

I have read in so many places including on Paypal itself that the plug in was discontinued and mine had stopped working last week.   I uninstalled it and somehow found a link on Paypal that still had the download link and VOILA...it installed and works just like  before. I am totally confused at this point. Guess I will use it until it stops working again and go from there. Where on the website to generated a card  number w/o using the plug in. I am willing to enter the number manually
