I paid for something through paypal (not on ebay) but then almost immediately cancelled as I found a problem with my order. I made and cancelled the order on 17/09, got my refund back on 20/09 but it a temporary hold has been placed on it. I understand that this has something to do with the payment actually being taken from my bank account. However, the payment has now cleared from my bank account, but my refund is still being held. Does anyone know how long it will take for my refund to be released? Thanks!

It seems that Paypal are becoming as bad as high street banks. I paid for something, not on ebay, the money was taken by DD from my account and a few days later the seller gave a refund. the refund is showing with a temporary hold.
When I spoke to paypal all they said was, it's in our terms of agreement. I have never heard of any organisation holding money for this reason before. It seems just another way of paypal making even more money from us. The only thing to do is not use paypal, but then how much more difficult will it be to make payments?
Paypal need to start to think about customer service a bit more.

I know I am wasting my time here, as so many have before me. However I have come accross other companies that treat their customers with contempt because they bekieve they are in such a strong position in the marketplace. Beware customers are becoming wiser, and there are alternatives.

Ive got a temporary hold on a refund but also for some bizarre reason it is holding a payment i received yesterday too, all against the said transaction that has given the refund any advice would be great.

I bought something through ebay and 24hrs later it was still unclaimed, and as i still hadn't had reply from seller regarding some details about the product - i cancelled the payment. On the same day that i cancelled the payment, ebay sent me a message that they had withdrawn the listing and advised me not to pay for it. Paypal have received my payment from my bank via DD but my "refund" has been put on hold without any reason at all or notification at all. Surely it is in paypal's best interests to advise people why tranactions have been put on hold and give an approximate time to how long. Do paypal and ebay work/communicate with each other??
What can i do?? the seller is no longer on ebay, they never claimed the payment and ebay have withdrawn the listing with a "don't pay" instruction

PayPal and eBay are the same company, they conspire to get the most money possible from you.

The rational behind all this holding of refunds is that PayPal pay the seller before they (PayPal) have received money from your account.
Does anyone really think that PayPal takes such a risk? - I certainly don't.
It's an old-fashioned administrative process that should be changed.

There might be a way. From this point forward I will ONLY purchase from sellers who use a payment method other than PayPal. If we all start telling sellers that we refuse to use PayPal, maybe, just maybe, the sellers will smarten up and use alternate payment types.
