How does PayPal get away with it?

I cannot believe that a simple transaction whereby one person is is simply sending money to another that PayPal with its supposed "security" has to hold onto the money for weeks, (also charges 5% as a fee) and then once the money is released, for more "security" reasons, it takes 3 days to transfer the money to your account!!!
Disgraceful, but live and learn I guess.
This is the first and last time I will use paypal.

New seller hold, every single Ebay and other sellers go through.
Its done so paypal can provide good buyer protection and protect themselves at the same time.
Funds also take 72 hours the first time you withdraw.
If you don't want to use paypal thats fine, unfortunately as a buyer i only buy from sellers that don't offer it as i want that buyer protection.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
