Nervous about a pending transaction

I am not an experienced user of Paypal therefore would appreciate the advice of others with this question.

I am selling goods in excess of £1000 and someone has asked me to request payment rather than just go ahead and pay although I have sent my Paypal address twice. Looking at it cynically, is this an attempt on his part to pass Paypal fees to me or would it make no difference in terms of what it costs both of us?

He is at sea currently and says he will arrange collection of the goods but I would have no possibility of tracking under these circumstances and it could mean trouble for me further down the transaction process if he reverses.

I cannot verify which country he is from and I understand Paypal protection for sellers only applies to some countries.

He says his son's address will be provided in due course but I need more transparency than that.

What can I do to facilitate the sale but offer him protection also as the goods I am selling are authentic designer and he is naturally concerned about my status too.

Hi Jethro,

There should be no need for you to send them a payment request as all they will need to pay you is your email address. If you send a payment request and that status is showing as pending, please remember that a payment request will show as pending straight away and it means it is pending for payment. It does not mean that a payment is pending. It will only update to complete or paid once a payment has been initiated.

Also in order to cover yourself under our Seller Protection Policy please only ship to the address provided and use your own shipping service so you can track the item yourself.

I hope this helps

Paula
