Help! 1st dispute received!

Hi All

I'm very new to all this, I posted an item by 1st Class Royal Mail to a buyer on the 14th January, a week later they sent me a message advising they had not received this, I responded immediately requesting confirmation of their postal address so I could make sure from the receipt I have it was sent to the right place.

I heard nothing back so therefore assumed the item had been received, next thing I know I have an open dispute on my paypal which was opened before the 15 day Royal Mail "lost" time span and no other contact from the buyer.

I'm not quite sure where to go from here but the 15 days for Royal Mail was only up yesterday am I within my rights to as the buyer to wait until next week to be on the safe side? I've ordered items from ebay in January and they have taken up to three weeks to arrive!

Unfortunately I only used 1st class but have proof of postage, who's responsibility is it to log a case with Royal Mail?

I would be grateful for some advice

Thanks!

Hi there lil_witch,

All I can speak about is PayPal and the decision we would most likely make based on the information you have given to me.

As far as I know, 1st Class Royal Mail does not show online delivery to the Buyers address so we would have no choice but to close any open case in favour of the Buyer. PayPal has designated it the sellers' responsibility to ensure that the item is delivered to the buyer and the proof of posting you have does not do this.

With regard to the questions you have about Royal Mail, you can get onto the 'Contact Us' section of their website by clicking here.

I hope this information helps you

Wayne

Thanks for your response 🙂

I'm currently awaiting a decision from PayPal although I think the outcome is obvious!

Guess I learnt the hard way!

Never make  your buyer wait the 15 days for a refund, if you cannot prove receipt then you refund.

All disputes that are opened against you go against your seller non performance with eBay, it is preferable then if a dispute is opened for non receipt and you cannot prove delivery via online tracking you refund your buyer immediately, to not do so can result in negative feedback and a dispute going to a claim resulting in the end in your eBay account being restricted.
