Refund on lost item

I sent an item that I sold on ebay.  I was paid via Paypal.  I sent it via Hermes which was one of the options offered by ebay.  The seller said the item never arrived.  It was sent to a business address.  Hermes say they delivered it and have some sort of signature.  I refunded the buyer, but I am now out of pocket.  Myunderstanding I had some sort of cover by Paypal, but have spent ages on the site, but cant find a straight forward option to take to make a claim.

Sellers don't open claims buyers do.

If your buyer had opened a dispute for non receipt of item and you had a tracking number that proved delivery then you would have won that dispute and would not have had to refund the buyer.

Then it would have been up to the buyer to sort it with Hermes.

You can't get your money back from Paypal and as the item was delivered according to Hermes its unlikely they would pay out either.
