I received an email and when I try to open the email is locks up my outlook and then opens a window with the following "\\102.112.207.net\6\ss\PAYPALGLOBAL\1\G.4-NS". this will keep happening until I am able to click off the email.
Any ideas as to what is going on.

I received the following BS message at 6:04 pm 10/16:
I'm sorry you have been having
issues with PayPal's email notifications freezing or closing down your Outlook
system.
We recently implemented an update to our
email notifications system, which has caused issues with some customers ability
to view PayPal emails. Our engineers have identified what has caused this and
are working to get it resolved as soon as possible.
Again, I am very sorry for any troubles
this may have caused. For any account updates, I advise logging directly into
your account.
Don't forget, we're always around
if you need us. Just click "Help" in the top right corner of any
PayPal page to visit our improved Help Center.
Sincerely,
Penny

It just shows how "serious" PayPal regards our problems. It takes them FIVE days or more to change an "o" to a ZERO. I am going to start using Authorize.net for my eBay payments! Their Customer Service must be on Holiday!

I'm glad they are not using a general form mail response to this issue as I got this one:

Come on guys.
I get the time issue, but you really should of had this handled by now! I've had the problem for five days. You just need to go in and change some code. Heck, we already diagnosed it for you. What could possibly be the hold up?
I AM LOSING CUSTOMERS BECAUSE OF YOUR LITTLE PROGRAMMER SNAFOO.

Here's the diagnosis!
Here is what your update changed. If you view the source of the email, the following is what is causing Outlook to crash:
src="//102.112.2O7.net/b/ss/paypalglobal/1/G.4--NS/123456?pageName=system_email_PP464"
It used to be:
src="https://102.112.2O7.net/b/ss/paypalglobal/1/G.4--NS/123456?pageName=system_email_PP464"
The missing https: is causing outlook to hang while it is trying to load your image.
I'll take a portion of your programmers salary please, heck I don't even know how to fix computers. If I can come up with this why aren't you?

The problem is the URL102.112.2O7 They used a capital "O" instead of "0" (zero). It seems it takes PayPal programmers a week to change and O to a 0. It points out that they do not check their programming. We are their BETA testers.
PayPal has cost their customers thousands of hours with this stupid glitch. It appears that they are REFUSING to fix it.

Totally ridiculous....we've been all helping each other with ways to get around the issue. I spent a **bleep** of a lot of time this week wondering what was wrong with my system....I was sure it was outlook so I even reinstalled it...same thing. Upgraded to 2010. No luck...even worse than 2007 in time outs. Tried new email clients like Thunderbird. Thunderbird crashes also BTW.
I found a blog about 2 days later with the host file fix that enables me to continue working with my paypal payment notification emails.
Paypal, leave your system alone. Every time you touch something you **bleep** something else up! Last time email address of customers weren't appearing in the emails...again error in template.
It's been 5 days now. You say you are aware of the situation. We even have given you the solutions and what is causing your problems but nothing is being done.
What kind of company is this. If I were treating my customers like you I would have long been out of business.
Maybe it's time we find another payment gateway that works and aren't full of incompetent people that have no idea what they are doing.
It's official....You guys are totally ineffective. 5 days and counting for such an easy thing to fix on your end. Pathetic.

Well,
The hosts file fix worked for a few days. As of emails coming through yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, many of them now hang again. I think PayPal tried to implement a fix that not only didn't work, but also ruined the hosts file edit fix?

MY god, thank you.
I've been chasing this problem for days.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF PAYPAL TOOK THE TIME TO SEND AN EMAIL OUT TO CUSTOMERS TO GIVE THEM A HEADS UP!.
It would have been nice to know before I uninstalled office, reinstalled & tried everything under the sun, I wasted at least 8 hours on this.
Thanks paypal
