Outlook Issue

I received an email and when I try to open the email is locks up my outlook and then opens a window with the following "\\102.112.207.net\6\ss\PAYPALGLOBAL\1\G.4-NS". this will keep happening until I am able to click off the email.

Any ideas as to what is going on.

So, who do I charge all my time it took to trouble shoot this issue and finaly find out that it was paypal's fault? You cant break peoples messaging client and slowly work on a fix.

Very unhappy at how I have been treated by this company. Took hours and hours dealing with this issue.

I found this fix on a different board and it works.

This fix will work on 32/64 bit versions of both Vista and Win 7

This basically has to do with the Paypal HTML email having a tracking pixel in it from Omniture, which owns the 102.112.2o7.net server. (note 2o7.net, it's the letter O, not a zero).

If you don't care about contributing to Paypal statistics, as I'm sure most won't, the easiest, most permanent fix is to:

1. Start Notepad.exe as Administrator (right click notepad, and choose "Run as Administrator").

2. Open this file, or create it if it does not exist: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Assuming you installed Windows in the default location, if not substitute C:\Windows for wherever you installed it.

3. Add this line to the end of the file:

127.0.0.1 102.112.2o7.net

4. Save the file.

This will basically route 2o7.net request back to your computer, which will reject it, allowing you to read your emails quickly and in peace once again.

Good Luck

That worked! You are awesome. After two days of futile futzing around and dead ends I found this thread. We use Outlook 2007 to process payment notifications and this was bringing our business to a grinding halt. Someone (or their lawyer) needs to light a fire under PayPal. Inexcusable.

GENIUS! I usually don't suscribe to forums but I had to this time just to thank you for helping us solve this issue (since PayPal might never do it). I am on Windows 7, using Outlook 2007, and your fix worked perfectly.

Just a quick clarification for those of us not very well versed on computers. When you try to open the "hosts" file under Windows - System32 - Drivers - etc - you will find an empty screen saying "No items match your search".  Make sure you have selected "All files' which is located on the lower righ corner within the pull down menu that says Text Documents  .txt.

I am VERY happy now.

WOW!!! So much frustration and even went through the whole Microsoft detect and repair on my entire Office suite thinking it must be a Microsoft issue (Now...why would I think THAT?). We are using PayPal for our Square Inches of Love project for which people can take part for as little as $1. I use the preview paneI to (usually) make it much faster to sift through all the messages we receive. t really hurts to have it hang up on each PayPal message - especially when it is a $1 transaction! Love PayPal's usual simplicity and assume they are anxious to get this fixed.

For the "file change" solution suggested  - should there be any concern of needing to re-edit the file when PayPal changes the process on their end?

Ndlovu- Sorry about that. There are a couple of emails we have that are causing that problem as of today, and we're very actively working on finding and resolving the problem.
