Hi, I recently filed a dispute thinking that I was going to be scammed, but it turns out the seller is legitimate. How do I remove the dispute? Thank you

Hi Jezza_hr

Thanks you for giving your concern to us so we can further assist you. For the instruction on how to cancel your dispute, kindly refer below:

How do I close a PayPal dispute or claim?

If you close a dispute or a claim it’s important to be aware that the claim can’t be reopened. Closing a dispute tells us that the dispute or claim has been resolved to your satisfaction.

To close a dispute or claim:

  1. Go to Resolution Centre.
  2. Select Open cases in the drop down menu and find the claim you wish to close.
  3. Click the Case ID link (e.g. PP-111-222-333) under the Case column.
    • If the case is in the Dispute phase click Close Dispute
    • If your case is in the Claim phase click Cancel this claim.
  4. Enter any comments in the comment box and continue to close your dispute or claim.

Closing disputes for sellers:

If you’re a seller you will not be able to close claims filed against you. Instead you’ll have the option to offer a full or partial refund to resolve them:

  • If you offer a full refund the dispute or claim will be closed immediately
  • If you offer a partial refund the buyer must agree before the dispute can be closed.

BUT NEVER close a dispute / claim until you have your item or a refund.
If the seller issued a refund then that would close the dispute automatically.
If he doesn't escalate to a claim.
Do not close it or he can ignore you and you can't open a second dispute OR re-open a closed one.

Thank you. After this message was received I had an email from PayPal saying they can't see any form of fraudulent activity (I didn't put in a request to close it). If I don't receive the item, am I able to open up a dispute saying it wasn't received?

A dispute for an unauthorised transaction is telling paypal that your account was hacked and used without your consent to make that transaction.
Paypal would check IP addresses and devices and see that it was you that made the transaction and so the dispute would be closed.

As you are only allowed 1 dispute per transaction then the only way you can get a refund via paypal is to contact them (when and if you can) and see if they will open a second dispute for you. They may not do so because of their policy but if you say you made a mistake then they might open a dispute for non receipt of item OR not as described for you.

If not then if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card then consider contacting your card issuer and see if they will help you with a chargeback?
