Gift Certificate Balance Help

Recently I bought an item on eBay which I didn't receive. I filed a claim with eBay res. center and was favored so I got a full refund. The problem is that I bought eBay gift certificates to partially pay for the item so that I could use different forms of payment. So now I have a gift certificate balance that cannot be refunded or transfered which I no longer need. Do I have any other options? I need help and any help would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. I was thinking of anything. I bought an iPhone 4s for 700 dollars a few days ago and was thinking I could ask the seller to create an invoice for the amount of my gift certificates (375USD) and I pay it and then the seller refunds me the 375USD to the credit card I used to purchase it. Will this work? How would the seller do this? If the seller creates a regular invoice in paypal won't my gift certificates not be valid? How does one change the payment on an item they have just purchased? I'm asking a big favor of the seller to do this so if he is willing, I want to be able to tell him how to go about doing this, if at all possible.
but if there is an easier way to get my money back for eBay gift certificates or an easier way to change payment, please please please let me know. I appreciate any and all help and advice.
