Scam Email regarding payment to Skype Inc

Paypal users please beware of a scam Email regarding payments to Skype Inc.  I have just received an Email supposedly from Paypal regarding payment for 3 months subscriptin to Skype Inc.  The Email states that if you have not authorised this payment then please click on "cancel payment" button.

Please ignore this Email as I do not believe this is from Paypal as it does not state my name, ebay membership or Email address as the recipient - it simply welcomes the Paypal Client.

Also when I clicked on cancel payment it redirected me to another site which I immediately closed without entering any personal details.

Thanks Pam

A lot of people fall for this one so that's probably why it keeps on being sent Smiley Sad

I've just found the same email. I checked my paypal account and it didn't show there so suspected it was spam.

I have just had that email through, looks very believable, thankfully norton stopped me following it up straight away. Think pay pal need to do something to block it if it's been circulated for over a month now! Interestingly just recently looked at skype but didn't give any details so wandering how they homed in on me?

Unfortunately Paypal can't stop this....it's nothing to do with them! It's like asking Apple to stop the production of fake Apple goods...impossible. People should just use their heads and go directly to paypal if they are ever unsure about something

Hi everyone,

Just to follow up on this. We have received multiple reports from customers in the last few weeks in regards to the very same email that you have all received. I would be nearly sure that in every occassion, the email that you all received was not sent by PayPal.

If you check the greeting of the email, it wouldn't be address to the first and last name that is registered on your PayPal account. You should also have a look at the content of the email itself. PayPal would never ask you to click on a link in an email to cancel a payment or to provide information about your PayPal account.

If you could all please forward the email to spoof@paypal.com so that we can clarify if the email was sent by PayPal or not.

David.

Hi there.

Thank you for telling us all what to do regarding these Skype payments.

I have now received either 4 or 5 over the last 6 weeks. Most of them were for 39.00, but the latest one is for 42.99.

Nothing has been taken from my account on any occasion.

I have forwarded my latest one to the address you gave, so Thank you.

I just hope they get caught!
