Cross-border personal transaction fees

Hi,

I've been looking at the Help section for half an hour now but I keep going in circles...It keeps showing me Merchant fees...

To put it simply, can you tell me (or give me a link to place where I can find out) how much would it cost to send money (personal transfer) from UK to Croatia?

Thank you

Hi there Mamainak,

It is free to send a personal payment using your PayPal balance or an Instant Bank Transfer. If you send a personal payment using a credit card however a fee will be applied.

Click here to view a list of our fees.

Hope this helps!

Hi there all,

I think you're mistaken, Moderator, if I may say (are you actually part of the Paypal staff?): there is a (*)  leading to this bit:

* Additional fees for cross-border payments and currency conversion,

and if you follow this link, you'll see only domestic payments are free, but all cross-border are charged a fee.

What I'd like to be able to check, is : are all Eastern-Europe countries, such as Croatia, nowadays accepted for Paypal?

I seem to recall they didn't use to not so long ago...

Thanks

Hey there Glencora,

You are correct that there is a cross border fee of 0.5% on personal payments even if sent from the PayPal balance or a bank account.

In relation to the countries that PayPal can be used in you can view them all here.

If you use the drop down menu to pick the country you are looking for it will tell you what services are available as not all contrived can do the same.

For example Ethiopia can only send money, they are unable to receive or withdraw funds from their PayPal account.

I am trying to send money as a personal gift to Spain from the UK. Normally when I make this transaction as an instant payment I am charged 1/2 % or there abouts which I'm okay with. But all of a sudden the fee has risen to 3.5% aproximately and I'm not sure why. These are personal payments and not business related. Has something changed in Paypal? I made a transfer only a week ago and paid the normal 1/2% rate.

Thanks, Lucy.

I think you forgot to paste a link you wanted to give, but it doesn't matter because if it's the list of countries and what they can do, I visited it already; you've made it all much clearer in one line.

Now I see that I can receive a payment from a croat buyer, but not pay him.

Now, what if I needed to refund him PART or all of his payment?

As he can't receive money, would that mean he can't receive a refund of his own payment either?

(Tough one this one, huh?!)

Many thanks again,

Glen

You can always refund a payment, but the payment will go straight back to the funding source of the sender. That’s the same for “Send only” countries.

Sorry, I'm not sure if I understood everything so let me check: the fee for sending money from UK to Croatia 0.5%?

And I've read that people with croatian bank accounts can receive and withdraw funds now? Or still not?

I really don't know where is that dropdown menu, to see the fee for a chosen country...I can only see domestic ones...

PayPal is a money grabbing machine. I am now been charged 1% for personal transfer from Canada to USA when sending money to my daughter. The money comes from my PayPal account where I already got charged 3% to get the money in. My daughter is also Canadian, but goes to school in USA. I assume this is cross-border transfer fee. There is no currency conversion at play.

Hey there guys,

Mamainak, click here for the link, Glencora was correct I forgot to put it in!

Jhoro, I can’t really say for account outside of the UK. You may wish to go to the US forum for this as there are slight differences between the UK and the US.
