Changing country or removing incorrect addresses?

Hi everyone,

There is a lot of questions lately about changing the country that your PayPal account is registered in and also getting old or incorrect addresses removed from your PayPal account.

Changing Country

Firstly, it's not possible at the moment in order for anyone to change the country that your PayPal account is registered to. If for example you are living in the UK and you have moved to a different country, you should register a new account in the country that you have moved to and if you wish, keep your UK PayPal account open if you are planning to return to the UK.

Removing Incorrect Addresses

If you can see some addresses in your PayPal account, you would need to contact customer services directly in order for us to get the incorrect addresses removed from your account. These are gift addresses that you would have sent items to in the past and they can only be removed by customer services.

I hope this answers anyones questions that you may have about moving country or getting old or incorrect address removed from your PayPal account.

Over the years as technology evolved, the ability to consolidate once onerous tasks into just one platform (eg, a phone that has a camera and can be used as a map as well) has been the rewarding goals of nnovative companies. So, I'm just wondering why we are just told straight on to open another account just for this simple task. Surely, we deserve an explanation of why this just cannot be possible, especially for an internet (global) based company like paypal. It is not very helpful for us. Somehow, this should be possible to action, even if it is for a fee. Please may I have an explanation why changing country is not possible and why we are not being told that this is a feature that is being worked on? Thanks

I recently tried to re-sign up for a Canadian Paypal account but it seemed that my attempt was denied and I was redirected to my UK account...what should I do?

Editing Addresses:

You can edit or remove old addresses from your account if you log in and go to Profile --> Add or Edit Email

Changing Country:

I've just successfully changed country on Paypal and kept my existing email as the primary email account. Basically you need to open a new PayPal account in your new country/region. This is exactly what I did:

1. Log into existing PayPal account

2. Go to Profile --> Add or Edit Email

3. Add new email address (I have a spare/junk email account that I used)

4. Confirm new email address (the confirm button will send a confirmation email to your inbox)

5. Mark the new email address the Primary address

6. Remove old email address

7. Log out of PayPal

8. Go to PayPal.com, and register a new account in the new country/region

9. Use your old email address as the primary email account and complete the registration process

The bank account confirmation process takes a couple of days but once this is complete, you're done!

Ebay:

Don't forget to log into ebay and associate your new PayPal account with your ebay account if this is what you are using it for.

Hi, I have a problem with changing country in my adress. I am from Czech Republic and I can´t change the option from "Great Britain" to "Czech Republic. Can anyone help me, please!? Thx

Hi SigurdWessah,

Welcome to the community forum.  

When you move to another country, you need to close your PayPal account and create a new account using your new address. It's not possible to change the address on your PayPal account to a new country. That it is why you have not been able to select Czech Republic in your UK account.

Here’s how to close your old PayPal account:

1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
2. Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
3. Select ‘My account settings’.
4. In the ‘Account Type’ section, click ‘Close account’ and follow the instructions.

Then you can create a new one. When the account is closed it frees up your email address so you will be able to use it on the new account. 

If you are living in the UK and just want to sent something to Czech Republic you can change the address while you are making a payment. It will show you the address in the transaction details as you are going through and you can click 'change'. Make sure the address is correct before completing the payments.

Just recently, when using an address in Portugal to which I often post, I find the confirmation letter contains absurd additions to the correct address - as in this fictitious example - Fred Bloggs

Note the addition of "NOTPROVIDED" and "default" and yet this address is correct for Portugal.

The postcde - which pinpoints the address very precisely - should precede the post-town on the same line, as in this example. The addition of regional (County) information is NOT required and often leads to confusion. In small villages houses are rarely numbered.

I hope this newly introduced clitch will be rapidly corrected.  Not everyone uses the UK postal addressing system!

I'm pleased you entered this. It's exactly the same system as France - possibly other European countries, too. It's about time that Paypal got out of its US-centric ideas about how the world works.

I am moving to America for about 12 months.

My question is...if I open a new Paypal account with my new USA address, can I still use my original email address and also banking details ?
