Account Limited For No Reason

Hi, Can anybody explain why I received an email fro paypal totally out of the blue informing me that my account was to be limited?

Despite the account being fully verified, used regularly, never had any claims, disputes or negative feedback from any other parties during its usage (purely on Ebay), I am informed that paypal wish to withold any funds being received into it for a period of 21 days!....What is all this about?

I've spoken to a paypal telephonist, who I have to say was not the most helpful individual I have ever spoken with, nor did they have the best grasp of the English language, and they were unable to provide any explanation except for the one they were reading from their script!

I'm at a loss as to why this unacceptable infringement has been placed on the account, which has always been used and managed properly. If I had to guess, I'd say its another method for paypal to bolster their already hefty fees, by witholding funds in order to benefit from the interest that they'd attract whilst the money was wrongfully being witheld.

has anyone else suffered this indignanty, and is there a simple answer to get it lifted without jumping through 30 hoops or an hour on the phone to Mumbai? Help!

Are you a new ebay seller?

Have you received any poor seller ratings on ebay?

No, I''ve been buying and selling on ebay for years with no negative feedback ever having been received and no disputes ever arising. So why has this limitation been instigated?

You wouldn't believe the number of times I have phoned up eBay to resolve an issue, who refer me to PayPal customer support, who then refer me back to eBay. It's a shambles and no one has a clue what they're doing.

I have had to create at least 4 different PayPal accounts to continue selling on eBay, but it only a matter of time before my new account is limited and I cannot sell anymore without "having to provide new information" and "being linked with other accounts".

Same thing happened with me.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear you have had this issue with PayPal, this is a disgracefully regular occurrence with using PayPal, a few lucky ones get away with not having it but it happens far to often, and as you say it is completely unacceptable. I'm currently experiencing the same problem, and I work for a consumer website where we discovered in research, how PayPal do this to loads of people, and they seem to genuinely think their in the right doing it, but of course we know their not, it's terrible service, and PayPal has a number of practices that make them a very badly ran business, like this.

This is the reason why PayPal and eBay's service is so flawed, eBay go on about their feedback service, but while great in some ways, it's ultimately flawed, as people are punished on their PayPal account which could then effect the use of their eBay account even if they have had perfect feedback always. For me, eBay has been ruined somewhat  by PayPal, both as a seller and buyer, PayPal have caused so many issues. Many of the sellers and buyers on eBay have much, much better customer service then eBay and Paypal, and they could teach PayPal a thing or too!

I agree that they offer some very bad phone service, the odd staff member has been OK, but mostly their unhelpful and have a bad attitude that reckons they are with in their rights to stop access to our money, which they are in no way at all.

People have tried different things to try and get access to their money back, some have had success others haven't. PayPal are very stubborn with this, but just remember it's them who are going against a good practice of acting. I know the phone staff can be really bad, but as they are from a legal perspective (people have successfully sued PayPal over issues with what they have done to accounts)  as well as a moral one, required to give you back access to your money, I found that eventually some PayPal staff started to get the hint and bit by bit released some money off my account, after I kept calling them throughout the day, as I really needed access to my money. If they still insist on not doing it still you might like to mention to them and indeed register a complaint with the FSA (Financial Services Authority), as PayPal do not seem to bothered about good customer service to it's users, perhaps they might not like the FSA looking into it, if they will look into your complaints, if they won't do individuals cases, it's believed they may look at the issues as a whole if they get lots of complaints, so I'm hoping they will, as they must get loads about PayPal! It will be good to hear how you get on, and if theirs any further help that you would like.

I too am having this same problem, at first I was getting my money in dribs and drabs after 21 days, but now they are witholding £56.50 of my money and even though I have emailed them on at least 5 occassions, I am still unable to access my money! Im really stressed out...if I didnt need the money then I would not be selling things in the first place!! I too have 100% feedback and no other complaints or problems, have been a member since 2009, but started using account in Oct 2012..Paypal havent even answered the Emails I have sent, even though I have had several others stating that my account has now been lifted and I can access my money whenever I want to!! Im so angry....

Same here and I know of no reason why I am a 'high risk of fraud' customer. Gee thanks Paypal for killing my reputation, I don't even have any points on my drivers license! All they have told me is they have limited my account to protect me and my customers. They have told me it could be because they've linked my account to another PayPal account. Yes I have two accounts as within the rules, one business one personal. The limited one is my personal account so I use it mainly for buying. The man I spoke to said it's likely someone will reopen it by the end of the day. It didn't happen so I called again. Someone is going to look into it on Monday. On Monday I received a message saying account limitations cannot be reversed. The reason is because of the number of claims! I've only made one claim in 2013 and don't think anyone has ever claimed. It says go to the resolution centre but there are no cases to be resolved! My question is: can I close this account and open another one using the same email address? If I don't hear back from PayPal with an explanation by Monday, I will be making a complaint to the FSA or Financial Ombudsman. I suggest you do the same because they will take notice of complaints they receive in large numbers.

Hi juli, was your problem ever solved? Paypal's customer service is incredibly frustrating, my account has been limited too - out of the blue- I had to provide them with a lot of information and nothing has happened ever since (it's been a month), I wanted to close my account because this is nerve wrecking and they won't even allow me to do that! At this point I really don't know what to do anymore, the experience is Kafkaesque to say the least 😮

You got off lucky, PayPal wont even let me email, call or use the Community Help Service? Like seriously!? What do they expect me to do if I can't contact them I had to make a new account and just leave my money and hope they unlock it at some point.
