Change Trading As Name

Hi

I need some help and advice.

There is no option to change the 'trading name' for my business in my account profile.

This is accessed by:

My Profile/My Business Details/Business Information/Update 'Trading Name' field

By default the trading  name is set to the business name.

This is very confusing to customers as my business name (like many businesses) is different to my websites trading name.

Surely this is an issue a number of businesses are experiencing and is damaging to a smooth payment process.

Could someone please help me:

1. Setup the correct 'trading name' on my account

2. Ensure that the customer sees this 'trading name' in addition to the proper business name in the Paypal payment process.

I have searched the forums for similar posts and as far as I am aware the business name must match my banks business name in order to make withdrawals, so setting the 'trading name' as the business name will not solve this issue.

• You should be able to change it when you go to that option, is it the same as this as you should be able to click edit and change it.
• Go to www.paypal.co.ukand log in to your account.
• Click 'Profile' near the top of the page.
• Click 'Update' in the 'Business information' section, then click ‘Edit’.

No unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem.

I can change the business name but still have no option to change the trading name when I attempt to do this.

You should be getting the option to add your trading name on your business information form. If you are not getting this option please contact us by phone so we can assist you with this.

I have exactly the same problem.

There is no way to edit the trading name and dire warnings if you change your business name which MUST match your bank account.

What makes it worse is how inflexible Paypal is; I have over 300 websites and a parent company that processes payments.

I want to use Paypal because it makes reconciling easier but I have to pay 3rd parties, this makes reconciling a pain.

I have been able to create an Invoice logo and graphic but again Paypal only offers 3 of these.

So I created a generic logo not in the name of the company but vague enough to not scare users

BUT this confuses the hell out of customers and puts them off, i will explain;

A user visits a website called say XYZMarketing, clicks a buy button and gets the message

"you are about to send £950 to Flitcrest Ltd"

with a logo in the generic name

I do not want to be forced to change my company name along with my bank account stationary and 300 websites just because paypal is inflexible.

I also do not want to have to list my name.

I should be able to have a trading name per button, invoice and other paypal button.

1000 people a month search ask this question on google and there are nearlly 2 million results, isn't it time Paypal did something about it?

I did contact you to ask how to change the trading name and after 30 minutes on the phone they emailed me how to change the account type which is NOT what I asked, it is already a limited company and it must match the bank account name.

I do not want to be forced to change my company name along with my bank account stationary and 300 websites just because paypal is inflexible.

I also do not want to have to list my name.

I should be able to have a trading name per button, invoice and other paypal button.

Hi Entre, 

You should have the option to add a trading as name in your business details section on your PayPal account. I understand from your post that you have already contacted us on this however I would recommend that you contact us again by phone and request that we edit this for you. 

I also taught you may be interested in how your business or trading as  name shows on your buyers statement. You decide how it appears on your customers’ credit card statements when they make a purchase from you.

Here’s how to change your name:

1. Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
2. Click ‘Profile’ near the top of the page.
3. Click ‘My selling preferences’.
4. Click ‘Update’ beside ‘Card statement name’ in the 'Selling my items' section.
5. Enter your name next to ‘Credit Card Statement Name'.
6. Click ‘Save’.

I spent a whole day back and forth with paypal, over £26 of phone calls and numerous emails messages

Sadly they were very firm in dismissing me after 4 messages where they answered completely different questions, (see below).

It is NUTS that you do not support trading names, you should be able to do it in the button and subscriptions, it is livery for my websites.  You have a coding ability in buttons that would be ideal for this but you don't use it.

I am talking to other providers now, the best I have been able to do is find a generic name for the livery but even that does not show when they click the subscribe button.

Also the user gets a different livery if use code in a button or the email URL.

Thanks for your comment about the statement, but my issue is that I am losing sales because people get confused when they see my company name. Of course on the invoice it will matter too.

I understand your frustration at this matter and I understand that you would just like to change your trading name not the baseness but unfortunately this cant be done.

I understand that you are frustrated regarding the replies that you have been receiving and that it is your trading name you are wanting to change not your business name.

Unfortunately you are unable to add different trading names alongside your business name. 

I appreciate this isn’t the resolution you were looking for but at present PayPal does not have a way of amending this.
