Last night I have made my first purchase with my paypal account for $30 and got en email saying:
We wanted to let you know that you’re just $30.75 USD away from hitting your initial PayPal sending limit of $2,000.00 USD. This is the maximum amount of money you can send or use for purchases before you need to become Verified.
I don't have any other payments in transaction history, what is the $2000 about?

at least you gusy got e-mail warnings. i have been with paypal for years and all of a sudden i cannot send money because i have reached my "limit" of 45 frikken dollars. years and years and i have paid a lot more than 45 throughout and now this happens. paypal hasn't helped me resolve the issue. i now have negative feedback as a seller and a buyer on sites because i cannot send my money. the money is there and i cannot use it. what am i supposed to do? i need to puy orders and if paypal doesn't let me, at least send me MY money somehow so i can close my account and be done. it's sad because it's not just me, but a lot of other users who are getting these BS limits. after this i'm done with paypal. today was the last day i had to pay a bunch of stuff and refund money. THANK YOU PAYPAL for being a pal.

I received an email saying I have almost reached my initial spending limit of 5,000. They say this is to reduce fraud, I have been a paypal member for about 7 years, and the only way to get close to the 5k limit is to add up every purchase from day one. To say that this is to reduce fraud is bs, if it was a monthly or quarterly limit, or even a yearly limit, then yes it could be a way to reduce fraud. But to go back several years! I will not link my bank account to paypal to remove this limit, if it means no longer using paypal, then its all on them. Locking out a good customer for not complying to an unreasonable request, is bad business. Until now I have had no problem with paypal, I have lost a lot of respect for this service because of this email, and I hope they change the policy before I hit the limit, or I will be forced to use other methods of payment.

Getting sellers to comply with other forms of payment has been difficult for me.
I too was told by PayPal that I was reaching my "limit" of $10,000. At this point I may be just a few hundred dollars away from my limit, and I've been using ebay almost exclusively to buy office products for the last five or six years. So far three vendors I've used regularly in the past have declined to take other forms of payment other than PayPal so I will have to move to Amazon to start buying office products when my "limit" is reached.
It's basically extortion - use our PayPal credit card or give us your bank account number - or we will cut you off completely. I wonder if any state attorneys general in the U.S. even care about this. Here in California, where ebay/Paypal is located, I doubt they will do anything about it in the CA government. Our state is so cash-strapped that dogging a large corporation like ebay probably isn't going to happen.
