How do I change primary email

Help! I followed the steps to change my primary email and I just get a message stating that this email is already added to my account. I know that but it won't let me delete the old address because it is the primary email. Can't find how to contact paypal for this.

Had the same issue.

The problem is you have to release the email use from previous noticfication settings.

Here is what you do.

Click the "Cog" at the top right of the a screen to get to your profile.

Once there click the Notifications tab

You will now see your email address with an arrow next to it.

Click the arrow and it will open a list of the emails you have on file.

Uncheck the one you no longer want to use.

Then you should be able to go back and make the new email address primary.

OH MY GOSH!!!!   It WORKED!   After over a year of trying to change my primary e-mail account, those directions did the trick.

Now what Paypal needs to do is sticky the directions or add them to the generic help email.

  Thank you so much! I'm trying to drop the email I've used for years, with dozens of sites, and going crazy trying to make the all the changes. PayPal had me stumped for quite a while.

  I've learned a couple of things about this process in PayPal I would like to add:

    You can't just change the primary email to something else. You must have a secondary email in place first.

    PayPal must have updated their website because I couldn't uncheck the primary email. Instead, I found I had to select (and therefore check) the desired email. And that worked!

    Then you can remove the first account if you want.

Thank you very much.  I was finally able to change the primary e-mail to a new account thanks to this but how do i delete the old one?  It still won't let me delete it and whenever I try to I get an error msg telling me I'm not allowed to delete my primary email account (even though it's not even listed as the primary now).
