How to be cautious when donating to help with Hurricane Harvey

When natural disasters strike, people can be amazing in their desire to help by donating funds for relief. Unfortunately, there are nefarious villains who would capitalize on the hardships of others, and we do see fake charities pop up during these difficult times. PayPal acts quickly to shut down these false charities as soon as we become aware of them. In the meantime, there is a way to donate to help victims of Hurricane Harvey that PayPal endorses. PayPal also covers all fees so 100% of your donation goes directly to the charity. There should not have been any fees for sending a payment through that campaign. Can you tell us more about the fee that you're seeing and where you're seeing it? Was it for a payment outside of the campaign linked above? Was it for a payment sent or received? Thanks!

Be aware the The American Red Cross deployed almost the entirety of its $500 raising for Haiti for overhead and other administrative expenses. While promising thousands of replacement housed, it could point to only SEVEN when investigated by NPR and others. But being the Red Cross ithere were no consequences other than bad press.

It remains to be seenif it can pull of the same accounting her in the US. The Red Cross has a long and sordid history of administrative overpending with lavish expense accounts and high salaries.
