Recieved package had been tampered with, item missing.

On a recent purchase from Ebay, the seller sent the item in a sealed envelope. When I redieved it the corner of the envelope was torn open and the item I purchased was missing.  What should I do next?

Gin_road,

Hello there!

Since you have received a package from the seller, but the item(s) were missing, you can file a claim with PayPal within 45 days of the date of the original payment.  While we recommend trying to work it out with your seller whenever possible, if you still haven't received the item and you're running out of time, open up the dispute for "Significantly not as described."  Make sure you indicate that you did receive a package, but the item was not in it.

More information on the protection PayPal provides to our buyers can be found here.

Thanks!

Adrian

I have a similar problem but I am the seller. The buyer received my package but she said it was empty. I am going to take her word for it but do I have any protection or can I file a claim with USPS?

Thanks

Hi reesie1971,

It's always unfortunate when a package arrives empty.  In those scenarios, it's best to put in for reimbursement from your shipper, since they would have been responsible for the package's well being in transit.  When doing so, we always recommend that you have any insurance payouts sent to you and not the buyer.  You would then want to refund the buyer using the issue refund link in PayPal to help protect yourself from any chargebacks or bank returns.
