While the general release of this product has not yet begun, this thread is here for questions about the product. If you're in the initial limited release and have experience with the card reader, please feel free to ask or answer questions in this thread. Hi There,

 

I have an issue I'd like answered.

 

I initially signed up to the waiting list (In AUS) on the first day PAYPAL HERE was advertised.  After the long wait and seeing my mate have his swipe device for 2 weeks, I finally recieved my notification that I was ready to go.  Unfortunatley I has signed up using a different alias of the email account that my business account uses.

 

i tried adding this email address to my profile, but as I had previously sent a test money request to this email account, paypal now classes that as a "customer address" and i cant be added.

 

I called paypal customer service and was told they couldn't rectify this, however, as PAYPAL HERE was now in general release in Australia, I should simply re-register and would have the device within 5 days (this was over a month ago), yet I am yet to recieve any confirmation that I'm ready to role.

 

I dont fancy another 2 hour wait, and many transfers on the phone to customer support, but would like to know how long I should be waiting now.  Its getting quite urgent that I get a credit card payment method.

 

Did customer service inform me wrongly? any ideas how long the wait will be? and, can someone at paypal remove my email alias from being classified as a customer so that I can simply add that address to my profile and get up and running?

Update:

 

If you're getting stuck on  "Synchronizing Preferences", please check to make sure that Location Services are enabled for the PayPal Here app in the phone settings.  If Location Services are enabled for the app, and it still won't login, please let us know.

Frank I have verified that my location services are enabled for paypal here. The gps icon pops up on the status bar during the process as well, but still nothing. Still not getting past "Synchronizing Preferences".

Thanks for checking that. 🙂  Our engineers continue to investigate.  I've been told that this can also happen due to connection issues.  Maybe try resetting the network settings on the phone?  Does it matter if you're using your mobile carrier's data or wifi?  Based on everything that's happened so far, I don't think this will work to fix it but it's worth a try.

 

We'll post updates here as soon as we have them.  Thanks for your patience everyone.  If anybody had this issue before and it's now working, please let the community know if you did anything that helped to fix it.

We have been running into issues with the paypal here reader not connecting.  We found that removing the case allowed this to properly connect.  Plus we had to troubleshoot a little.  We determined that you have to turn the volume up and that our case was in the way.  To solve this so we could use a case, as after our first phone broke we were spending more on repairs than making money.  Here's a company that makes a cable to allow cases to remain on the phone / tablet when trying to use the PayPal Here reader. https://cellpayaccessories.com/affiliate/38/node/882

 

FYI - this cable is the only one we found that worked.  Plus you have to plug the reader into the cable then the cable into the device for this to work.

Any idea when the invites for Canada are going out. I was under the impression that the launch for both Canada and the USA would be at the same time, thank you

Square and mpowa both work on galaxy s3. I don't need another merchant account and would like to use my PayPal account for my photography clients. Thanks.

I can't get mine to accept a payment. I'm using Android 4.0.3 on an HTC Evo V 4G. When I type in an amount, and press charge, all I get is "We're sorry, we were unable to complete this transaction. Please try again."

 

My GPS is turned on, and location services are allowed for the paypal here app. I don't know what else I'm missing.
