Software update not happening

I've been waiting for 5 hours with iPhone 5s displaying "Preparing to update, don't quit this appor press any keys on the card reader during update"

I need to use the phone, please reccomend a course of action to resolve this problem.

My iphone 4s has been saying for the past 3 hours that its installing an update. I'm charging a newly recieved PayPal here device as well which says installing update. The thing is though that the phone says that its installing update step 1 of 7. Seems to be taking too long to be working

Any ideas would be welcomed
