customer requests two invoices - how does this affect buyer/seller protection?

I have a customer who wants to use Paypal to pay an invoice for an item she purchased online. She wrote today requesting to pay with two different PayPal approved funding sources, but from within one Paypal account.

She says she must ask for two invoices to that account, because "the PayPal setting does not allow me to draw from two different accounts to pay one bill."

But this is not true in my experience. I can receive an invoice within Paypal and select multiple funding sources to pay a single bill.

I am concerned she may attempt to dispute one of the two invoices later, after receiving her item.  Should I be suspicious?

I think you lose your seller protection if an item is paid with multiple payments, try sending her an invoice and see if she can pay from different sources of fund.

Thanks for your reply.  I originally did send a single invoice with a single total $ request.  After a few days, she made this request for two separate invoices.  I would love to see Paypal's own words about seller protection and partial payments.  If I locate it, I'll post it here.

You are the seller; you set the rules, not the buyer.  Don't let buyer decidie how you run your business.

If buyer really wants the item the buyer will find a way to pay the invoice in full.

If buyer already has financial budgeting problems, it's wise to not deal with the customer as the risk is too high.

Under seller protection terms currently, it does not list that partial payment invoices are not eligible. It would not make sense to have the partial payment feature on invoices if sellers were not protected. When the invoice is paid in full, any dispute would apply to the invoice as a whole, granted normal practice is that merchandise/services is sent/delivered after it is paid in full.

Previously though, it was the buyers who had to pay full amount with one payment in order to be covered under purchase protection.  But they rolled that back as of:

Amendments to the PayPal User Agreement
Effective Date: June 25, 2016

SECTION 13.2 Eligibility Requirements

We’re updating the eligibility requirement for Purchase Protection.

The revisions to Section 13.2 will be as follows:

We’re deleting the requirement that user’s pay for the full amount of the item with one payment.
We’re adding that you must respond to PayPal’s request for documentation and other information in a timely manner.

Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂

Nope, they rolled back on that rule in 2014 or 2015.  At least since they start allowing partial payments on PayPal invoices.
