Sending money as a gift.....

I tried to send my friend money today (who lives in the same state) and I was charged a fee to do so even though it clearly states on the gift option I clicked on that this action is free. Not sure why I was charged but I can get her the money for free using other options and will do so next time if I am going to get charged now.

Did you use a debit/credit card, PayPal Credit instead of bank account or PayPal balance? If so, then there's your "why".

Nope I used my bank card. It is a visa though. Do you think it could possibly be mistaking it as a credit card? I've sent gifts before without any issues using the same bank card. Thanks for your response.

A bank card, the one that comes with your bank account is a debit card so a fee is charged.  Not sure why you weren't charged before.  You were lucky I guess.  Kind regards.

Ok, I mistook when it said free if using bank since it is a debit card through my bank I just assumed. Thanks again.
