Send money to friends

It is apparent I did not understand how this works.  I was charged a fee when I thought the money was to be withdrawn from my account as usual.  Please advise

When you say ''taken from your account'' do you mean your balance?

Only if you funded the payment via a card then you pay a fee, its only free from funds in your balance or bank transfer.

BUT you also pay a cross border / currency conversion fee if its an international transfer.

I have a debit card set up in my account to pay for things such  as Amazon and eBay, but this transaction charged me a substantial fee...if or down payment and another for final payment.  I do not understand this.  Appreciate any advise you can give and how to contact the proper person to clear this up.  Thank you, Dennis

If you funded the paypal payment to your friend via a card then you would pay the normal fee.

Its only free if you use your bank account via bank transfer or funds in your balance.
