Refund question

Basically I have had to cancel a payment I accidentally made yesterday, but the initial payment hasn't left my account yet as I don't have the funds. The refund and payment shows in my PayPal and I'm just wondering if the money will still leave my bank account then come back in from the refund or will it just cancel out and do nothing? Thanks

It depends how you paid. Did you pay with one of PayPal's debit/credit cards or with your PayPal balance directly?

Debit card, I've had nothing come out though, not an issue if it does come out and go back in as it should happen within a few hours of each other.

I'm not sure why I formed that question in that way but here's what I meant to ask: Did you pay with your PayPal balance or with a card/bank account? If it you did pay with your bank account or card, then it would be placed on hold for 3-5 business days, if the merchant sent the refund before the transaction has cleared your bank. Once the process is complete, then the transaction would be credited to your PayPal balance and not to your bank. Which means that if you want the amount sent to your bank, you would have to start the transaction on PayPal. Otherwise, if the payment has cleared your bank when the merchant sent the refund, the refund would be sent to your card up to 30 days. (Keep in mind that the 30 days is not 30 business days.) Let me know how it goes, @Harveyp96!

For those who are following this thread: If you paid with your PayPal balance, then the amount you paid with your PayPal Balance will be refunded to your PayPal balance the same day. Once again, same day not the same business day.
