Has anyone received an email stating that the student debit card service was closing? I received an email that states: Effective November 15, 2016, all student Accounts will be closed, and any remaining funds in them will be transferred to the associated parent’s PayPal account. Are they really terminating this program or is this a spoof email? I just reordered my sons debit card and it arrived last week!

I am going to set up an Amex Bluebird family account. Very few fees & restrictions. The paypal regular prepaid has a $4.95 monthly fee. They can forget about that.

They are keeping the program for students that are under 18. If your kid is over 18 they want the kids open their own account primarily so that they can track the responsibility for transactions and whatever else goes on.

Where did you see that they are keeping student accounts for children under 18 years old? I would be very happy if this were true.

From my son's account today 9/28:
"Please note you will not be able to use your PayPal Student Debit Card starting 9/29/2016. Any unused balances can be moved by parents to their accounts by 11/15/2016."
