Payment issues at Dollar General

For months I have been using paypal at Dollar General. It was easy, just punch in your phone number then your pin number and everything was good to go...

 

That was until this week. Yesterday I went into Dollar General and tried to pay with paypal and it kept coming up "enter payment code" I tried everything and nothing worked. It was a new employee so I thought maybe they didn't know how it worked so I paid for my stuff with cash and left...

 

Well today I had to go back for the things I had forgotten yesterday and so I tried to use paypal again. It was the store manager today so I was sure paypal would work as I have used it countless times with her... Again it did not work. We tried everything and it wasn't working. We kept getting this "enter payment code." Finally she gave me a paper the cashregister had printed out that reads.

 

"Thank you for attempting to use your paypal account. Unfortunately, we are unable to process your transaction at this time. Please visit www.paypal.com/anywhere or call <removed> for additional information."

 

So what happened? Why is paypal no longer working at Dollar General? Is there something new we need to know inorder to keep using paypal there? Any insight on this issue would be much apperciated.

I ran into the same issue last weekend.  At first I just thought the system was down but when I went back the next day but to a different Dollar General store I got the same result.  The clerk had no idea on what was going on.  Previously  I could enter my phone number and pin and checkout but now they are not asking for the phone number.

Dollar General changed their pay system.  You will  now have to use the paypal  app when entering the store.  You need to have location enabled on your device.  Prior to checkout  select store that you are in, then the pay option will appear. Swipe pay and then you will receive code to use at register.  This should  get you back to shopping.

I have the same issue at Dollar General. I have been trying for several weeks to get it to work the way it used to, but it always says I need to use the app on my cell phone now. I don't have that app and I don't want it! Why does PayPal keep changing things? I just got an email from them today explaining the NEW procedure for Dollar General! HA! New, indeed. I have had this problem for months now.

 

It still works OK at Home Depot and Office Depot. Hope they do not change, too. I do not think it is Dollar General changing it (they probably don't care one way or another). It is PayPal trying to force us to do the more complicated thing (for their benefit?).

 

PayPal is way out of control. It was started to give us a secure way to pay for online stuff. Great! Then they branched out to retail stores (like Home Depot and Dollar General). Great! Now I am inundated with emails from them wanting me to get verified (whatever that means) and give them my bank account numbers! No way! And also get THEIR credit card. What's up with that?

 

Please go back to the old way of doing things and leave us alone!

 

(I think Dollar General is probably gone forever, but I hope they go back to the old way).
