I have a Paypal account that I use to purchase items. I a selling an item on Craigslist and a prospective buyer is asking if he can pay me through Paypal. I have never received $ through my account. What do I need to do to make this happen?

Ask the potential buyer for full name, mailing address, and phone number and then create a Paypal invoice which includes all product details, pictures, AND SHIPPING information. Send it to buyer. Buyer pays. You ship.
Suggest you also phone the buyer in advance to make sure you are comfortable with the sale.
Also, reivew PayPal policies for seller protection.
PayPal will not protect you from bad buyer judgment, nor will PayPal protect you from your own lack of experience.

Proceed with caution. Ask for their email address to send a PayPal invoice to, then send a PayPal Invoice through the Send & Receive link on the Summary page of your PayPal account.
Await for official notification of a paid invoice from PayPal or log on to check if payment was received is the best practice if buyer emails to say that they've paid. Scammers will email saying they paid along with convoluted instructions. Note that since you are new at selling, the funds you receive from sales will be subject to funds availability hold by PayPal. Even if that is the case, you should see a payment received record in your PayPal account. Scammers will say that the money won't be shown until you've shipped the item, which is a lie so it is very important that you see a transaction recorded of Payment Received.
Kudos & Solved are greatly appreciated. 🙂
