Hey all. I'm a trans woman whose trying to avoid being dead named publicly. Is there a way to use my preferred name on Paypal while still linking to bank accounts or cards in my legal name?

Just like your bank, PayPal requires legal names.  Using fake name would be fraudulent.

Your gender preference is not relevant to anything on PayPal.

To be able to keep from disclosing her male birth name to those sending money, a process of verification and approved alias should be put place as a protocol to handle situations such as this. Come on Paypal- such small crap as this should be a standard of practice for your account holders and the respect they deserve regarding their integrity and identity(by birth or by choice or by luck) there has to be some solution that's doesn't leave the account holder to choose between ruining their life's work to be whoever they want in life to be (as in this case the gender they feel they should be) or allow PayPal to deny accommodation to their specific and easily resolvable delimma.

100% agree. Thank you, that would be an ideal solution. If some one were running from an abuser, they would need similar protections. There definitely needs to be something, and I am quite disappointed there isn't. Looks like I'll continue using Google Wallet (they allow alternative names), despite the lack of protections for buyers.
