I found an item for an excellent price to resell, I contacted the seller, and he insisted that it is authentic. I asked for multiple pics from multiple different angles, so I could upload them to a paid authentication service. However, he hesitated and told me to save the $60 authentication fee, as it is unnecessary. He told me to purchase the item through friends and family, so there wouldn't be any fees. I researched and found out that goods and services would cover me if I received a counterfeit item, or the item isn't as described. After I ensured that I'd be covered by PayPal buyer protection, I paid for the item, and I received a tracking number. I received the item, and it was in good condition. However, I noticed a few inconsistencies, but I ignored them and assumed them as factory mistakes. I sold the item on a big reselling platform called StockX where they authenticate items in their facilities before delivering to the final customer. The item didn't pass the authentication process, and I got fined a considerable sum of money. I confronted the seller about it and sent him a screenshot of the results, and he said that it's ''because the item is missing tags and a receipt''. I told him that I've sold on that platform a lot and that they never require a receipt. I also emailed stock to prove it to PayPal just in case he comes up with this argument. Stockx responded by saying that they never require receipts, and in a separate email, they detailed why the item didn't pass the authentication. I decided to file a PayPal claim due to spending my hard-earned money on a counterfeit item. I chose ''item, not as described'', and detailed my reasoning with pictures of the authentication result. I added photos of the fine and the details for not passing authentication later to the case. I received an email from PayPal saying that the case is closed, and the purchase is ineligible for PayPal Purchase Protection. This doesn't make sense to me as I bought a counterfeit item through goods and services; this transaction should be covered by PayPal buyer protection.
