HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

I received the same email only I do not sell on any auction sites.I did sell a couple times about 6 months ago but not anymore. I'm wondering if holds will only happen to sales or if my payroll will be effected? I currently work for an online company and am paid 2x a week by my employer via paypal. I've never had a problem before. Makes no sense that those payments would be held for 21 days when they are not sales.

I just got the email today, 7/25/11, and was shocked.  Paypal should not be holding the sellers funds, especially when most sellers complete their transactions promptly and ship immediately.   i have been a member since 2002 and it is getting harder and harder to get people to leave you feedback, when i get feedbacks they are nothing but positive with 100% satisfaction.   I only take Paypal for this reason, that I have access to the funds as needed and can process every transaction (sales and purchases)  through that account.  If Paypal is going to hold the funds for 21 days, and only notify a seller the day they start doing so, I might just not be using Paypal anymore and that means no more Ebay for me!!

There are cheaper options and they don't hold your money. After having trouble getting money I earned from PayPal (my clients paid with private credit cards and I'm the one who entered them in PayPal) I discontinued this service. I now use Square with my Android phone, but ProPal was about $30 a year with a low percentage fee.

I'm sure this email won't see daylight, but it was worth a try in case it slipped through to others of us who have money being help hostage.

I have been selling for several months now. When I first opened a seller acct, I understood them holding my money to make sure that I would be a responsible and honest seller. They just randomly decided to start witholding my funds on the last batch of items that I sold. I'm sooooo mad. Like you, I think my Ebay and Paypal days are numbered. It's utterly ridiculous when responsible, honest sellers are punished for absolutely no reason. Ebay and Paypal have been totally useless in helping me either, as they both just keep passing the buck and blaming the other one for the reason the payments holds are now occuring.

I shipped an item that I sold on Audiogon. The buyer paid $800.00 for this item. Fed-Ex damaged the item in shipping. Instead of contacting me to report the item damaged, and request a refund,. he filed a dispute. I imediately refunded his money...........and paypal put the 21 day hold on my account. NOT FAIR......not what I signed up for 11 years ago, when paypal was paying people $20 to just sign up!

I am leaving paypal, there are now better alternatives. The seller is treated like crap now.. Honestly, you really dont need paypal. They used to be fair, they used to be good. They hold your funds.......and make interest off it. If pushed, I doubt this is legal. ....and I know an attorney who works for them.......I live 3 miles from their operations center in Lavista Nebraska.  Ebay took away negative feedback to leave for buyers! Sellers are being **bleep**ed on ebay and paypal.

I totally agree on the fact that sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers. They can leave negative feedback for us, but we can't for them?? WTH? You have buyers that take forever to pay, buyers that are rude and impatient, buyers that are unsatisfiable...but we can't let other sellers know that? Not cool.

I just got an email today informing me that my funds would be held for 21 days so I called customer service and got absolutely no where!! My Ebay & Paypal accounts have been opened since Jan 05 and I have never had any problems. I am not a store and I only sell things on occasion but that has been the case since I opened both accounts. I have never had bad feedback, never had a return, never had a dispute and have my account backed up with my credit card but from what I was told by customer service none of these things matter to Paypal!!! They told me that the hold would never be removed from my account because I don't sell on Ebay on a regular basis! Well this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO ME!!! I use Paypal services every week for other things that I do online and have never had a problem and I'm quite certain that there is another company out there that would love to have my business because it is apparent that Paypal DOES NOT want it any longer!!!

I will not be bullied by a this company, either this is removed from my account or I will close it and take my business elsewhere!

I closed mine and they don't really care. They have the money I entrusted to them and tell me it has a 90 day hold! Do as I'm doing -- contact http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm.
