Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them! Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

Thanks a bunch of crap if I ever heard one! I have no idea why paypal changed this policy in 2009 but it's situations like this that caused us to create corporate "monopoly" laws. Paypal has now become just another way for ebay to take more of our money. A percent of each sale goes to ebay and then a percent goes to paypal, too. That's paying ebay twice! Untill paypal figures out how to secure thier funds WITHOUT holding back the shipping people have paid, it is almost certainly a waste of time, money and energy to use paypal for any transactions in the future.
I agree.. But, like it or not, PayPal has a VERY STRONG footing with e-bay buyers... Buyers are more likely to make a purchase if they see they can use PayPal... And that is the rub... I would love to see another company develop a viable alternative for buyers to use other than PayPal... Then sellers will have some real leverage over PayPal.

Right but there's another rub: there are other auction sites that do use PayPal but they do not issue the 21-day hold policy. At least I haven't heard of them doing so.They somehow are allowed to operate independently from eBay in that regard. Also many other businesses accept PayPal and not just online ones either. So the other "rub" is that like many powerhouse businesses, these people are very smart.

You are correct. But the difference is that PayPal and E-Bay are under the same corporate operation. They are not independent companies. Thus, they do what benifits both companies by withhold funds for up to 21 days.

...PLLLLEEEASEEE....."holding funds for 21 days" HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING AT LEAST 100 positive feedbacks! There are over 100 complaints on this board from trusted sellers with OVER 100! My last account had over 5000 and I was a powerseller!

I have been posting since January trying to offer insight to this policy which right now is absolute in the User Agreement that you must agree to be sell on eBay.
I am now at the point where I am tired of continuing to post links to eBay and PayPal's legal and financial problems.
I will post about every few days simply this:
Join the class action protesting this user agreements as invalid and voidable. The initial law suit has been filed but the firm is still taking names. Go to letssuepaypal.com for information, call the number and add your name.

As I said before, I have been an E-bay Power Seller for 12 years. I asked my accountant to get some figures for me. For the last 12 years I have paid $51,486.96 in E-bay and Pay Pal fees!! Now, they have deemed me to be "Below Standard" and a "Risk Seller" so that MY money has to be held for 21 days to make sure people get the item (Like I'm not going to send it) and they are satisfied (I have a 99.5% Positive Feedback Rating!)
I have said it before, E-Bay does not care about the sellers anymore, even though THEY are the ones keeping them in business!
I am now listing on E-Bid.net and Onlineauctions.com. They have a much better fee structure. Yes, they are not as big as E-Bay, but if enough people start switching, they will be! Even the people who are writing in on this thread would be enough! I have sent e-mails out to all the people who bought from me on E-Bay letting them know about what is happening and you would not believe the comments I have received back! People are shocked that this is happening! They are all for the change over to the new auction sites.
We can complain all we want about this, but the plain and simple fact is that E-Bay does not care!!
Here are Two Things that you can do.
First of all Send a Letter to the president of E-Bay. NOT and E-Mail, but an actual paper letter.
Here is the address
Jeffery D Jordan
E-Bay Inc.
2145 Hamilton Avenue
San Jose, CA. 95125
Figure out how much money you have paid E-Bay and Pay Pal in fees and include that. Let them know you are no longer going to continue listing on E-Bay until they change this ridiculous policy. We need to show them how much money they will loose. This may not help at all because I really don't think they care!
The other thing to do is start listing on another site like E-Bid or OnlineAuctions. Here is a link to help you
http://online-auction-sites.toptenreviews.com/
None of this may help though because I cannot help but think that someone in E-Bay is reading the threads like this! You would think they would respond.
Good Luck to everyone.

I'm just getting around to fully reading your post and all I can say is WOW!! 51 grand, huh? To me, that really sums up the depth of all this nonsense! Just imagine the millions of others like you! And I agree you completely about doing business on other sites because that's exactly what I did. I got tired of paying their store fees plus their picture insertion fees, plus the fw times I did sel sumrting then eBay charged a percentage ten PayPa took their little cut! AND NOW THEY WANT TO HOLD PEOPLE'S MONEY??? YEAH, RIGHT!!!
From getting involved in this forum I found out about not only eBid & Onlineauctions but also ioffer.com and blujay.com. And I also found out about the differnt payment systems like Paymate, and there's even a GUNPAL! I haven't used them yet but I plan to very soon.
But like you said, in a way it's kind of good that this crap with eBay & PayPal came about because it sort of reminded everyone of how they overshadowed all the other smaller online sites and payment option systems.

ONLY A LION CAN ROAR, OTHERS CAN ONLY BARK, AND BARKING HOWEVER LOUD IT MAY BE, WILL NOT DISTURB A LION (READ EBAY AND PAYPAL). THIS STATEMENT OF MINE WILL IRRITATE SOME, I KNOW, BUT I CALL A SPADE A SPADE. EBAY IS VERY HUGE, REAL HUGE, EVEN ALL THE EXISTING AUCTION SITES IN THIS WORLD JOIN TOGETHER AND FORM ONE ENTITY, THEN ALSO WILL NOT EFFECT EVEN 1% OF EBAY AND PAYPAL BUSINESS.
DAY DREAMING IS FINE, BUT NOT ALWAYS.
