HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

The color of money !

I have looked through everyone of the other payment options eBay allows. They all hold funds for a certain period of time. I don't think there is any getting away from it, not selling on eBay.

I also use Paypal for other than eBay, for my website, but my Paypal is my Paypal regardless of where the sale is initiated and paid.

If you are thinking of Propay, you really need to read everything. They have too many little things that you don't want to get involved in. Example: If on their statement, a buyer does not remember just who they paid that money to because they don't remember you, if they contact the bank and inquire, the seller using Propay is charged $20.00. Amazing ! There are quite a few other things for which they charge. I seriously was thinking of them, but no more. Paymate only allows one id, plus there is also a hold. I did not find a single one without a hold period. This leads me to believe now that Paypay is simply following suit.

I did not know this has been going on for so long. I am seeing posts from over a year ago, so this is nothing new. It just is hitting the sellers on here, it seems. I am pretty sure I know the "risk" they think I pose, and that is a buyer who put in a dispute about non shipment. She did that without looking at her email where she would have found an email from eBay about the shipment, which of course was before her claim. This is what bothers me, that whoever, whether Paypal or eBay held my funds without checking to see that the item was shipped. Unfortunately, I was out of town with relatives who have no computer, so this happened without my being able to respond to the dispute. Other than that, I just don't know. I have three seller ids for varied specific items, and all of them, even one funded with another Paypal account with another checking account (which you have to do to have two Paypal accounts), that id also has a hold, and that is not even connected to my other Paypal account.

All of this is very puzzling, but honestly if we intend to sell on eBay, we have to deal with this, because if you are not wanting to stay because of the hold, again, all of the ones eBay allows also holds your money.

I hope this little tidbit of information justs puts this on the back burner. Not a thing we can do other than leave eBay, and as I have had time to think about it, I do make more money on eBay than any other venue, not my website, not ETSY. AND, I absolutely do not want people I don't know coming to my home to view what they saw on Craigs List. That is worse than Paypal holding funds. You all do remember the Craig's List killer, right? You just don't know if someone is really interested in your item or to see where you live and maybe come back later. Look at how many people will know who you are, where you live and possibly your circumstances as in single, married, separated, divorced, children, etc. Don't put your children or your family in harms way because of Paypal not being what we want them to be.

I don't like this situation, but I also don't need to jump from one frying pan into another or into a fire.

I don't understand about someone saying 'these people are dangerous' (probably not verbatim). Do you really think with the millions of people using Paypal that they will single out someone to do physical harm to? I think that is taking this a bit too far.

Not taking up for eBay, but how much would you have to pay out monthly if you had a brick and mortar store, and if inventory stays for months, you have lost a whole lot more than having to wait the time Paypal is holding funds. HOWEVER, I completely do understand about not having the money to fund the shipping ourselves. My suggestion would be to come up with something that can be sent in the least expensive way possible so the shipping is affordable, not have a lot listed at any given time over what you can pay in shipping yourself (that is in your bank account not targeted for anything else), and do that for the 35 days they state is the review time, and PRAY for them to lift the hold. Ship out the next day and make sure you put the tracking number inside your eBay..the place where it says "do you want to add your tracking number" and also print all labels through Paypal which will generate a letter to you and to your customer. Then follow up with your customer yourself with the very same information just to CYB. And, even though we don't like it, leave that customer feedback first that is really nice. I have avoided negative feedback at one time by doing just that. This put the buyer in the position of looking foolish if you stated how wonderful the buyer was and how you liked communicating with them (even if it is not true). We have to play the game, and it takes such little effort to make sure we dot our I's and cross our T's.

This long comment is ONLY because I have learned all of these payment plans offered by eBay as an alternative ALSO HOLD FUNDS and some ARE SO MUCH WORSE.

I wish all of you the best. I am going to do my best to get back on 'what Paypal considers not to be risky'. I have been selling things that have to be painted after they are purchased. This means I can't ship out in the ideal Paypal or eBay time, so that makes me look risky.

Best to all of you and many blessings.

I am sure you are very good at this and well established I handmake all my items we sell so I do not put alot out there at once and I was told because I do not sell or list enough items that is why after 7months they did this . It came from PayPal customer service. So some of your ideas will not work. But I agree with you that it is time to put it to rest. But I do not agree with praying for someone to be fair in their actions.

I paid 10 dollars today for a two day bazaar and already made more money and NO FEES than I did on Ebay. Now I know I do not have your expertise but I do not in a country like this have to accept being treated like I did something wrong. When told it was simply because I do not do enough volume and all of a sudden I do not do enough volume.

Anyway swince I agree with putting it to rest good night and God Bless

And, to repeat myself, I did not sign up for this 8 years ago. I did not sign up for the things they now find to be a reason to hold.

You clicked "Agree and continue" at some point legally binding you to accept the 21 day hold based on criteria that Paypal does not have to disclose to you.   So yes you did

No wonder Craigslist is so popular. Ebay and PayPal are shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly.  I HAVE A EBAY FEEDBACK RATING of 100%, yet last week they start holding my funds due to "my need to increase my service level".

Are you kidding me???  I'm a 9 year user of Ebay... but as soon as I finalize my curent transactions. I'm DONE with EBAY and Pay Pal!!!    Hello Craigslist!

I was told the same thing and I have 100% positive feedback and when I contacted Ebay customer support they pretended they did not know this was going on and if funds are being held it must be bad feedback, or something we have done wrong. Itried to explain my invoices are paid ahead, 100% positive feedback etc. the person tried to tell me their are no pending on my funds. So there is nothing to do but stop using Ebay and paypal. I buy alot more than I sell and I will not even buy  anymore.

I had the SAME experience!  I contacted Ebay two days ago to let them know that I would cease doing business via Paypal, and they claimed total ignorance of the inequitable policy of holding payments for 21 days for no reason.  They asked me whether I had any open disputes, which, of course, I do not.

I find this very interesting--that a parent organization is disavowing knowledge of Paypal's sleazy business practices.  Would they be doing so to put distance between themselves and Paypal in the event of a legal challenge, do you think?
