Why have my payments started being taken from my non preferred account?

can anyone tell my why all of a sudden my payments have started being taken out of my secondary account

I do understand that your payments are not being deducted from the preferred payment source. Please read this article to set the preferred payment method. You can reach out to the Support Team during business hours by clicking the contact us option at the bottom of PayPal page for any additional help. If your unable to login or are not in access of your PayPal account, you can connect with us via phone call as "as a Guest" (this does not require you to sign in to your PayPal account).

We're seeing the exact same problem - Multiple eBay purchases paid via PayPal and instead of using the PayPal balance, the transactions are all hitting the secondary method (bank account). All our settings are correct - online purchases is set to PayPal balance. But the balance is never used

They may have fixed it - did a purchase this morning and got prompted to use Balance and other methods vs just processing immediately.

I am frustrated! Auctane contines to charge my bank even though my preferred payment method is a credit card.

Does Auctane use an 'automatic payment'? If so, there are separate payment preferences for each vendor.
The issue I'm reporting is when PayPal ignores ALL payment preferences-- even those under automatic payments.
