Transaction completed but still no refund from PayPal

I bought some goods via Ebay on 14th December, I was supposed to pay in Sterling but the transaction went through in US Dollars. I contacted the seller who immediately reversed the payment. According to Paypal, the payment was reversed on the 14th December within a few minutes of the original payment and was received by my debit card issuer on 18th December. But, the transaction isn't showing on my bank statement and my bank has no record of any such refund being received or oif being in the pipeline.

Welcome to PayPal's Community Forum! I'm sorry to hear you've run into some hiccups with a refund you've been expecting. Normally, PayPal will send all refunds back to it's original payment method, but the time it takes to reach that payment method may vary. With that in mind, if it has taken longer than expected, we would recommend reaching out to our Customer Support teams for assistance.

Thank you for your reply. However, when I try to contact Paypal Customer Services, the only option I seem to have is the virtual assistant which is hopeless. It asks me to identify the transaction/refund which I do, it then tells me that the refund has been completed which it most definitely hasn't. According to my Paypal account, the transaction was reversed immediately on December 14th ( I inadvertantly paid the seller in Dollars instead of Sterling) and credited to my bank on December 18th. But there's no sign of it. I bank with First Direct and they tell me there's nothing in the system for the refund. It's almost three weeks now and I really need that money. Can you provide a link whereby I can speak to or email a human being rather than the virtual assistant please?

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry for the frustration that you've had with the virtual assistant. If the virtual assistant is unable to help, please let the assistant know that you need to speak to someone. There is no direct link. A virtual assistant will attempt to help initially each time you contact PayPal.
