Payout rejected by PayPal

I should have received a payout (5,000 USD) from an UK-based firm, they sent it twice but each time PayPal rejected it.
I carefully read the help pages and checked my account, but all appears to be correctly set up.
Why is it being rejected?
How can that be fixed?

Have you added USD as a receiving currency on your Spanish Paypal accounts that would be based on Euros?

Check they are sending USD and not UK pounds?

Have you double checked your paypal email address and made sure they are sending to the correct one without any spelling errors?

Finally have you confirmed your email address?

I've added USD, and even GBP just in case.
I've set the account to not automatically convert to Euro but keep the currencies as they are.
The email, linked bank, and card are confirmed.

They say (by email, so they do have the correct one) that according to their records the payout has been rejected (twice), contact PayPal.
I contacted a PayPal advisor who says all is fine and there should be no issue, contact the firm.
So I re-contacted the firm to ask for more accurate checks, but still no answer.

What I forgot to ask is whether PayPal actually keeps records in case of having rejected something, possibly with the reason for having done so.
