How to disable entirely the automatic payment feature?
It is unacceptable that if i pay to an seller by PayPal, it will be automatically added to the active automatic payment list without my acnowledge.

I want to disable this PayPal feature permanently. I want always authorizing every payments. It is crazy that the seller can draw the money when he want!

Hi @PayPal_Olivia, Thanks for your reply but unfortunately I could not understand how a merchant snd buyer agree on automatic payment? You say for next payments merchants need this agreement to use buyer username and password on their website. From my point of view this means if I would buy something again but does not mean when I do not buy something a merchant allowed to deduct from my account!!! Please read my case in previous replies.

@PayPal_Olivia From my point of view automatic payment and subscription are two different topics. Subscription means I would pay, for example monthly, to have a service. Like subscription for a movie channel. But automatic payment means when I order something, do not ask for username and password, like a sample I mentioned, using electric scooter.

How is a subscription defined? Should be there any written and signed contract?

Hi @n098qr7nc and @Omid2023

Thank you for your questions. You can learn more about automatic payments in this Help Center article. The terms of each individual agreement of each of the kinds listed there made are laid out in your account after you agree to them in the transaction.

I hope this is helpful!

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

The problem is not that automatic payment feature exists.

The crazy thing is the seller can activate this at any checkout WITHOUT PayPal notice of this, there is no checkbox for allow/deny this. The "subscription" is done and i don't know that this happend. PayPal does not display any message about this, the activation of the automatic payment is HIDDEN!

The minimum should be to ask the ovner of the money, agree or not with this subscription.

This is unacceptable for an financial service. PayPal is unreliable, not safe from now.

After the checkout the seller immediately can steal thousands of dollars if he wants.

I liked PayPal in the past. It was good because it was instant payment and there was a money back guarantee, but i don't dare to use it anymore.

I will disconnect the card and the bank account from the PayPal.

If i must use PayPal for any case, then i will first charge to the PayPal balance only the required amount of money, then pay with PayPal using the balance.

Crazy, complicated, but must do so for safety.

Hi @Gabor2000

I'm sorry that you've had this experience. My experience and understanding is that when there's an automatic payment billing agreement required by a transaction, there is a statement at one or more points in the checkout that indicates that there will be a billing agreement, since proceeding would constitute acceptance of that agreement. I have not encountered one where it was not present.

If you are reporting the absence of the statement, screenshots of the process from start to finish would be helpful in attempting to duplicate the issue during investigation. Please make sure that any sensitive information is removed from any screenshots if you plan to post or submit them.

Thank you!

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

I have exactly same opinion as Gabor here. I did not get any confirmation from Paypal, that there's a new agreement with my latest order with Brainety.

All i have ordered is a result of IQ test for approx 3 USD. But one week later they charged me almost 40 USD for some subscription that i was not aware of. I have no agrement, no contract signed, no invoice or order from Brainety. I have no active account, i haven't used the "subscription" they charged me for. They refuse to refund. They are scammers, they can reject. But what i don't understand, why Paypal does not step in and protect me as frauded customer.

I have a case open (asked for a refund by Paypal) at Paypal, rejected. I appealed with a reference to another Case ID that Paypal actually HAS refunded. still no response from Paypal.

Paypal wants me to send the written agreement with Brainety, orders, some proofs that can prove I am right. But i have no documents except the $3 order of the IQ test.

How am I supposed to defend myself? I haven't ordered anything, i have no documents that prove eglibility of Brainety to charge me money. I feel asking Paypal for help is waste of time. Paypal simply says I haven't canceled the subscription before trial has ended. That's right - BUT: i didn't know there was a paid subscription with automated payment!

Nobody has informed or warned me about that.

If I was a scammer, i would certainly not warn the customer about ending Trial period. I would do the same they did - wait until customer does unwillingly pay.

Those sellers are exploiting Paypal's Automated Payment mechanisms, which is very easy to exploit nowadays, because it is indeed HIDDEN.

When i pay by card, i am asked for 3D secure. 2FA, and so on. With paypal it's just one click.

And people don't know they have to go look on Paypal account, if there is any new Automated payment.

I understand those Automated payments are very comfortable. But are very exploitable. If you have a chance to look, my Case ID is PP-R-ZZJ-508334129

Hi @n098qr7nc

Thank you for that information.

In the checkout flow for a subscription, the statement should have been present, by design. It's usually in the merchant's own description of the item being ordered as well. If the claim is that there is no statement, we would need to see the whole flow in screenshots from start to finish. It is always possible for the eyes to miss the statements, but if there is proof that there was no statement in the flow, PayPal will certainly investigate.

Thanks again!

Olivia

Hi Olivia, There's certainly no information about an automatic subscription or new automatic payment in the email. That's a dirty business practice and I was used to Paypal not supporting such things. Not even defending. My problem is that i cannot provide a proof that I don't have. It's the merchant who should provide a proof of me clearly and undoubtedly being informed by them. Let's see how the case goes. As i said, i have a reference to a Case ID Paypal has approved and refunded. 100% same circumstance like myself. That should be a precedence. Let's see. Thanks for the reply

Hi everybody , A good news! I could refund my money after a month! 😁 I opened a case when I realised seller would not refund my money and contacted them thru PayPal and my case but they never replied. Then I sent them couple of emails and same thru their ticketing system on their website. They replied my tickets and emails but every time had a non-sense reason to do not give my money back. I post all my emails snd their replies also in my case. Last week and couple of days before my case close, I escalated it to PayPal and PayPal gave 7 days to seller to reply on my case. Ehen they did not any reply, today my money refunded although it will take time to have it in my bank account. It took me one month and lots of time to refund my money. I believe in this kind of cases seller must not only refund money, but also should pay a great amount as penalty. In this way they will never try to do it again!
