I just want to make a small payment through Paypal using my balance that'll be less than the amount the bill is for, but I don't want it to take from my bank account for the remainder. I've never paid a bill through this method and the pages aren't very clear that this will happen.

Click on the profile tab (icon next to log out) > Click on payments third option along on the thick blue band top of page > second down click on update next to your preferred way to pay and put a dot in the balance option.
Then make sure the funds are in the correct currency as paypal does not auto convert from a balance. The funds have to be cleared and not pending.
Then when you go to pay double check its the balance that is showing as a funding source and not your bank account before you click to pay.

Kudos / Solution appreciated.
