Can’t use PayPal balance online

Hi! I’m trying to make a purchase online and want to use my PayPal balance. However it doesn’t give me any option to select it (even though I updated my preferred way to pay to PayPal balance) it only gives me the bank card option… I can’t seem to figure out how to change it, is there something small I’m missing?

Are the funds in your balance in the correct currency for the transaction? ie is the seller in Australia as well or another country?

Yeah funds are in the correct currency and the seller is in Australia. They might also ship to other countries but not sure if that is a contributing factor

Occasionally, Paypal blocks the use of a particular card, a bank account or your balance if there may be a higher-than-normal level of risk associated with the transaction.

Here are some things that you can do that may help. Check you are making the payment from your country of residence. If possible attempt to complete the payment from your home computer or the computer you most frequently use to access your PayPal account. If you have an unconfirmed card or a bank account registered on your PayPal account, please make sure to confirm them.

This is **bleep**, and I've experienced it multiple times. Not sure if, at the end, it charges your PayPal balance or the card, but you are required to put your credit card information anyways in order to do the purchase, and I do not like this at all. I use PayPal for this reason to avoid paying with my card.

The last time I had this issue, I contacted the website owner where I was trying to buy something and he was also curious. He asked for my PayPal email to see what was going on, he opened a paypal support ticket as well, and they said it should be working with balance, but it wasn't. On another website where you buy the same digital stuff I was able to pay with my balance fine.

Normally you can only pay with your balance a few times UNTIL you add a card to act as a back up funding and verify your paypal account.
