US EXPAT in Japan seeks help regarding US bank account link & currency conversion

I moved to Japan from the US. I had a PayPal account. I’m not sure if my PayPal account in Japan can even link to my US Bank. The currency options in Japan are only in YEN. I’m wondering if I can pay and receive in USD. If I can, is there a conversion charge to me? What does my payee see in terms of currency and converted value seeing as how my account is in Japan? Is it all done on-the-fly by the PayPal system? Seems like this is a feature of a Professional PayPal account and not a basic one. A basic one seems to work best within a same country/same currency scenario.

Hello @mschool

Thanks for joining the Community!

I understand you have a few questions about currencies with your new PayPal account. If you'd like to open another currency balance, you can add it under your PayPal Wallet. You'll also have options to change your primary currency, convert currencies, and close a currency balance. In the same area, you can locate the currency calculator, which you can use to estimate currency conversions and fees. You can learn more about fees on our Help Center and fees page. If someone sends you a payment in a currency that you don't have a balance for, the payment will be placed into a pending status. You will then have the option to accept or deny the payment. If you send your customer an invoice for a currency that they do not have a balance in, they may have to complete a currency conversion before sending the payment. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with Customer Support by clicking 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal webpage. Support is also available through Facebook private message or Twitter direct message.

I hope this helps!
