Return/refund $ sent

At the request for $ from an (almost) family member, I complied and sent through Paypal, $50 from PayPal balance, $50 from my bank account. Family member says ' not received due to having no access to the account I sent funds. If the family member declines to get assistance to open the account (as in Paypal help, or exploring other ways) what am I to do? Paypal Help said talk to my bank, my bank said talk to Paypal...any advice on how to move forward? Losing $100 hurts!

If the payment status on your end is Pending/Unclaimed, you can cancel it, if a Cancel link is available, otherwise the payment(s) are returned unclaimed after 30 days.

 

If the payment status on your end is Money Sent/Completed, it means the email address, etc, you sent to is associated with a PayPal account and if family member can’t or refuse to get the money then the money is stuck, especially if you sent money as friends and family. There’s no PayPal buyer protection on friends and family payments.

 

If the PayPal account you sent money to do not belong to the family member, you can message the account owner in the transaction details and ask for a refund. You’re at the mercy of their good nature to refund.
