I tried to place a booking with booking.com and I got to the payment part which I logged into my PayPal for and pressed continue and got an error message, no booking complete. But the money came out of my bank but no booking was completed. In my paypal the payment is showing up as pre-authorised under notifications, with the message 'On 13 August 2022, £xxx.xx GBP was pre-authorised for a purchase on your card xx-xxxx.If it isn't completed or it's completed for a different amount, any pending amounts will drop off, usually within a day.' does this mean the payment never went through and I am to get my money back within a day or so without issue or is my money just lost as of now?

Hi @abbistanley,
Welcome to the community and thank you for your post.
I do understand your concern with this. When you attempt to make a payment, the amount can be temporarily charged to your bank/card. This is an authorization charge.
As the transaction was not completed, the merchant will not process the order. Therefore, the temporary charge will be removed from your bank within 72 hours. This is normal practice for online payments, so no need to be worried if this happens again.
I hope this helps!
