Payments rejected - i have a my bank as preferred payment

My bank account is set to preferred payment but when i tried to buy something it was declined. It wants me to add a credit card which i don't have. it used to come out of my bank account and just recently it started to decline it.  i called my bank and they could not figure out why and i called customer support and they weren't helpful either.  does anyone know why?

Sorry to know about the payment issue you're having using your PayPal account. Payments can often gets blocked or declined if there's any risk associated with it. It looks like the payment is not going through with the preferred payment method. To process this payment, please try again at a later date or use a different payment method.
