I have been sent money but it's not in my wallet or pending.

A friend has sent me 4 separate payments. I cannot access the money. It's not in my wallet or pending. But i can see that it was sent to my PayPal account.

I completely understand your concern about the payments not reflecting in your PayPal account. When someone sent you a payment, you will always receive an email notification with the details of the payment and the same will reflect in your PayPal account. Have you received any email notification about the payment? Any payments sent to your account will not appear in the account balance until you complete the registration process by confirming your email address. Have you confirmed your email address? If not, I would recommend you to confirm your email address by checking our help center article. 

If your email address is already confirmed and the payment is not reflecting, please please reach out to our team with the details of the payment through the available contact options at the bottom of PayPal page or message us through Facebook or Twitter to get this checked further.
